I-Team: Metro lieutenant target of investigation

News

Lieutenant Tom Melton is the target of a criminal investigation by the Nevada Attorney General’s Office and the Metro Police Department.

As of Tuesday, Melton was relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of the investigation, Metro spokeswoman Officer Laura Meltzer said.

The I-Team learned this might have a connection to financial issues involving guardianship.

Melton’s attorney, Sean Sullivan blames Noel Palmer Simpson
and April Parks for his trouble.  The women were indicted earlier this year for guardianship scams.

Melton hired the women to establish a guardianship and to do probate for an elderly couple he had been friends with, when they passed away, according to Sullivan.

Sullivan insists Melton did not take anything, and all assets are secured.

Meltzer said the findings of the criminal investigation will be submitted to the Clark County District Attorney for review.

Melton is a longtime Metro employee who has been one of the faces of the department; he’s also on the SWAT team.

Melton was interviewed for a lot of stories reported on 8 News NOW. The most recent report he was interviewed for was about the use of less lethal force.

In the past, Melton has also briefed the media at crime scenes.
