Five homes that were under construction burned in an early-morning fire west of Sam Boyd Stadium.

The fire inside the Boulder Canyon neighborhood, near E Russell Rd and S Hollywood Blvd, was reported just after 3 a.m.  Flames could be seen from miles around.

It’s been months in the making for single mother Vanessa O’Brien, who has been doing everything in her power to get a place that she and her daughter can call their own.

“I’ve been renting homes trying to get my financial situation in order so I can buy a house for my daughter and I’ve been working two jobs for the last two years prepping for this,” O’Brien said.

O’Brien clocks in at least 100 hours a week all to make “this” a reality, but that dream burned to ashes early Wednesday morning along with her future home when O’Brien received a devastating call from a friend.

The Clark County Fire Department managed to put the fire out within 30 minutes, but not before five future homes were damaged or destroyed in the process.

O’Brien and her daughter were excited to celebrate their first Christmas in their future home this year, but will have to put making those new memories on pause as the building process will have to restart.

“I’m looking around here and it isn’t the end of the world. I still have a home, I still have a job, I still have a healthy daughter,” O’Brien said.

The homes had been framed, but were all still in the early stages of construction.

The fire is under investigation.  No one was hurt.
