First game, first win. The Vegas Golden Knights are coming off an emotional victory in Dallas.
Before the puck even dropped, Stars fans gathered for their 25th-anniversary prep rally. They were excited but also extremely sympathetic regarding the shooting tragedy that unfolded 1,100 miles away in Las Vegas.
“Hockey is a great game, and we’ll certainly take the Golden Knights to the mat if we need to, but at the same time Vegas is a great city and our hearts go out to all the people there who are struggling with the events of the last few days,” said Janine Zabriskie, Dallas Stars fan.
Prior to the game, the Stars skated over and formed a line behind the Knights in a touching show of support.
The Knights won the historic game, but more importantly, they’ve won the hearts of Las Vegans.
“Being a new team, we have a lot of new fans and a lot of people affected by what happened so hopefully they tuned in and it could put a smile on their face because we’re playing for our city,” said James Neal, Knights Forward.
“We can’t undo what happened. We’ll do our best and work as hard as we can to make the city proud of us maybe get their attention to come to a game,” said Marc-Andre Fleury, Knights Goalie.
The Knights take on Arizona Saturday night.
