Henderson Police look for more information that will lead to arrest in elderly woman’s death

Police are asking for the public’s help in the recent homicide of an 84-year-old Henderson woman.

On July 6, at about 10:30 a.m., Henderson Police and Fire responded to a structure fire at an apartment complex located at 501 E. Lake Mead Parkway.  Emergency responders found the woman inside a burning apartment with apparent trauma to her head and face.

“It’s devastating,” said Bobbie, a neighbor. “It’s very devastating.”

“I just heard about the fire,” Amber, another neighbor of the elderly woman said. “I didn’t hear about a shooting or anything.”

The victim, identified by the Clark County Coroner’s Office as Donna McElfresh, was taken to St. Rose Dominican Hospital – De Lima Campus where she died from her injuries.

Neighbors said she kept to herself and was very quiet.

“I feel bad; she was by herself,” Bobbie said. Get to know your neighbors. Get to know your neighbors. Find out who they really are. Help them if they need it.”

This is the 5th homicide investigated by Henderson Police in 2018.

Anyone with information, in this case, is urged to call the Henderson Police Department at 702-267-4750. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or visit Crime Stoppers website.
