Monday was an exciting day for one North Las Vegas neighborhood as city leaders gathered at a groundbreaking for a brand new entertainment complex. The new state of the art cinema will be located right across from North Las Vegas City Hall on Las Vegas Boulevard and Hamilton Avenue.
Maya Cinema officials say the project is more than a decade in the making. Those involved say it should help revitalize the area.
What is now a 32-acre parcel of land will soon be transformed into a 165,000 square foot commercial and entertainment center complete with a deluxe 14 screen movie theater.
“We see this as a great opportunity for a wonderful population and a great population that has nowhere to go but up,” said Moctesuma Esparza, Maya Cinemas.
Maya cinemas two-story theater promises to be state of the art, including an auditorium with a 70-foot screen and Dolby immersive sound. There will also be deluxe recliners to sit in while enjoying the movie.
“This is something great, this is something nice,” said Orlando Morris, North Las Vegas resident. “It’s something we’ve been needing in the neighborhood.”
Maya Cinemas bought the land for more than $7 million. The company hopes to add 11 retail stores and four restaurants throughout the complex.
The theater itself should be open in time for the 2018 holiday season.
