Former cheer coach arrested for lewdness with students

News

A former Spring Valley High School Junior Varsity cheer coach was arrested March 19 for an alleged inappropriate relationship with students.

According to Clark County School District Police, 29-year-old Joshua Balelo was taken into custody on the following charges:

  • Two felony counts of lewdness with a minor over the age of 14
  • Two felony counts of child abuse.

In September of 2017, school police received information about a possible inappropriate relationship between Balelo and two students, so CCSD Police investigated.

The investigation, which was conducted by the CCSD Police Department investigations bureau, determined that Balelo had inappropriate contact with two female students. Balelo was fired in 2017 as soon as the investigation began.

8 News NOW has been in contact with many current and former Spring Valley High School cheerleaders. All of the individuals had positive things to say about their former cheer coach, saying that the accusations are false, but they do not want to be identified or go on-camera.

Balelo was booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
