Fire sparks in 2 homes near Alta and Decatur; wires are down in area

News

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue are investigating numerous house fires near S. Decatur Boulevard and Alta Drive.

The fire that sparked at two homes started around 2:17 p.m. at 4505 Alta Drive.

A second alarm for more crews was requested.

According to fire officials, the fire started when a man was trimming a tree, letting the branches fall into a fire pit below. However, when the man went inside his home to get something, he returned and found his yard was on fire.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue said the fire spread to his home, and then it spread to a second home.

A cat did die in the fire. Electrical wires were knocked down and now nearly 1,000 people are without power. Due to the hot temperatures a shelter is available to those residents.

NV Energy said power will not likely be restored to the nearly thousand who lost it until sometime Saturday.
