Fire crews battled abandoned building fire

More than 30 firefighters battled a massive overnight fire on the east side of the valley.

The fire broke out around 3 a.m. on Desert Inn Road, near Pecos.

The Clark County Fire Department says fighting the fire was challenging because the two-story structure is made of cinder blocks. Fire crews decided to fight the fire defensively, from the outside, because there were no “immediate life safety issues.”

The fire department says they’re aware squatters have lived in the building, but it appeared vacant.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
