The father and stepmother of a 13-year-old boy whose decomposed body was found dumped in the desert appeared in court Tuesday morning.

Paul Jones, 33, and LaToya Williams-Miley, 33, are both facing a murder charge in the death of Aaron Jones.

A judge set their preliminary hearing for July 13.

Aaron Jones was last seen alive by other family members in Dec. 2016.

His body was found on April 25 wrapped in a blanket under rocks near Boulder Highway and Sahara Avenue.

According to Paul Jones arrest report, he told police he struck his son in the face causing him to fall to the floor and hit his head. He said, the boy eventually stopped breathing and died.

Paul Jones and LaToya Williams-Miley are accused of ongoing abuse while the boy was in their custody and hiding Aaron’s body, police said.
