Project Neon’s “Main Event” didn’t go as well as the Nevada Department of Transportation might have hoped for it’s first morning.
Even with the reminders about the closure of the ramp from southbound US 95 to the southbound I-15, commuters couldn’t get out of their old habits.
Drivers trying to get to I-15 southbound from the US 95 southbound, need to stay on US 95 and continue into the Spaghetti Bowl where there is one exit that will get them onto I-15 southbound.
The detour is causing some confusion.
“It sucks,” said driver Raul Rodriguez.
Many drivers not understanding the new way to get on I-15 south from US 95 south.
“We were looking for signs and some other way to go and we didn’t see anything,” said driver Mark Hurkamp.
A mistake many drivers, including 8 News NOW, ended up making driving it the first time. That confusion is leading to gridlock on the MLK exit and a crazy detour to get back on the interstate.
“I live here, I should know better,” Rodriguez said.
A few orange signs direct drivers to stay on US 95 south and take exit 76-A towards Los Angeles – the one lane ramp to I-15 south (it’s the former ramp that used to go to I-15 northbound).
Drivers are encouraged to pay close attention to the signs. These changes will remain in effect through Dec. 2018.
More closures start Tuesday night.
NDOT will reduce lanes on I-15 north and south between D Street and Sahara Avenue.
