Couple claim men looking to buy gun kidnapped them

A man and woman are both safe following an early-morning kidnapping in northwest Las Vegas, Metro Police said.

Just before 3 a.m., officers responded to reports of a man and woman taken from a home near Oakey and Buffalo, according to Metro Police.

8 News NOW Reporter Cristen Drummond, spoke with Joseph Provenza, the male kidnapping victim in the incident. Provenza claims the two men kidnapped he and his fiance’.

He said they went over to a house in Henderson to look at a gun, and while they were there, the men tied them up and eventually drove back to Provenza’s house at Plantea Court to rob him.

However, according to Provenza, once he managed to escape, he grabbed his AR-15 rifle and shot at the suspects.  He also called 9-1-1 from a convenience store at Buffalo Drive and Sahara Avenue.

The kidnappers drove away with his fiance’ in the car, but she managed to escape soon after.  She ended up at a bar less than two miles away asking for help.

“She was shaken up,” said Bruce Heller, a bartender at Calico Jack’s. “She was crying and shaken up.”

Heller called the police.

“She was crying big time and like I said, when she first came in and said she was kidnapped I was thinking, well if you’re kidnapped how are you here? you know?”

The incident has neighbors on edge.

“A lot of people around here are a little bit nervous,” one neighbor said.  “This is like the third time there’s been an incident. There’s also been wild parties; just not what you expect to see in this kind of neighborhood.”

According to police records, law enforcement has had to respond to Provenza’s home in the past, but it was during the eight years he rented the property. He has only lived in it himself for about a year.

“She was crying big time, and like I said, when she first came in and said she was kidnapped I was thinking, ‘well if you’re kidnapped how are you here,’ Heller asked himself. “You know?”

Due to the inconsistencies in their stories, Metro Police has called the case suspicious.

According to Metro, the investigation is ongoing.
