Residents in a neighborhood on the east side of the valley are reacting to a deadly car crash that killed two people and left another person in critical condition.
It happened Tuesday night near Sahara and Lamb. Police on the scene say two cars were involved and they were racing down Sahara when they collided.
Tom Page, a resident that lives near by, says it is sad to hear about young people dying in a situation that is preventable.
“Just being three streets north of Sahara, you can hear the loud cars on the street, you can hear them racing over there on Sahara,” said Page.
Another neighbor, Stephen Nordahl, agrees. “Racing is made for the racetracks and the streets are made for driving,” said Nordahl.
Police believe the driver may have been going above the 45 mph speed limit for that part of Sahara Ave. Adding that speeding along that stretch of road is common, with three travel lanes in each direction.
Neighbors say that speeding can be an issue but this is the first time that they have heard of a deadly accident from likely street racing.
“On the main street a lot, the motorcycles on Sahara go up and down. Sometimes cars they drive a little fast but as far as the neighborhoods are concerned, I think it’s ok,” said Nordahl.
