Charge upgraded to murder for second suspect in Matthew Minkler killing

News

Both teen suspects are now facing murder charges in the shooting death of 17-year-year Matthew Minkler.

Jaiden Caruso, 16, the alleged gunman and Kody Harlen, 17, appeared in Henderson Justice Court for their preliminary hearing Monday.

Harlen, who was charged as an accessory, is now facing a murder charge. Both have already been charged as adults due to the seriousness of the crime.

Sufficient evidence was shown during the hearing for the case to be bound up to Clark County District Court.

The teens are accused of shooting Minkler in an abandoned home in Henderson on June 8. The three were among a group of teens who were smoking marijuana and listening to music in the home.

One teen witness described seeing Caruso load and unload the gun. He said, Caruso dry-fired the gun and even pointed it at himself, before pointing it at Minkler and shooting him in the face.

Minkler’s family and friends were in the courtroom and cried as the shooting was described.
