It’s been almost 12 years since a hit and run driver changed a valley family forever. Today that family celebrated the life of Ziyana Castillo, who was killed in that crash when she was four years old.
In 2007, the Castillo’s were walking down the street — a mother with her daughter and son in hand — when a car left the roadway and slammed into them.
The family was mowed down near Lake Mead Blvd. and Civic Center. They say everything seemed to happen in a split second.
Yolanda Shirley, the child’s mother, said, “No one knows how it is to lose a child until you’ve lost one. Part of my heart is gone.”
