Bicyclist dies following weekend crash, driver arrested

A bicyclist has died as a result of his injuries sustained during a collision with a car on Saturday, April 28th, according to police. 

The Clark County Coroner’s Officer notified investigators that 44-year-old Jason Eckert passed away on May 3rd.

Eckert was riding bikes with a 46-year-old Steffan Genevieve and an 8-year-old boy on Indios Ave near Mountain Vista Street when a driver ran a stop sign and hit him, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. 

The driver, 40-year-old Danesmin Solis-Cortea then crashed into a brick wall, police said. Both Eckert and Solis-Cortea were transported to Sunrise Hospital.

Solis- Cortea showed signs of impairment and later booked into the Clark County Detention Center. 

The crash remains under investigation. This is the 40th traffic-related fatality of 2018 in LVMPD’s jurisdiction.
