Bail set for Michael Logan, father arrested in case stemming from son’s death

Justice of the Peace Melanie Tobiasson set the bail Tuesday for Michael Logan at $75,000. Logan was is facing charges stemming from the shooting death of his 2-year-old son Messiah Logan.

According to Tobiasson, the death of little Messiah was “tragic” but “avoidable.”

Defense attorney Doug Crawford said during a hearing Monday that the 26-year-old was asleep and did nothing wrong when his son was shot and killed by another child last Wednesday.

However, an arrest report released Tuesday revealed that after Logan awoke to the loud “pop” sound, he walked into the living room and found his son bleeding out. The report said, he tried to provide aide to his child, but then he noticed the gun, so he picked it up off the ground, placed it in a pillow, and then removed it from the home.

When paramedics arrived, the child was already dead, but they did CPR, to keep the toddler’s mother calm.

Crawford told the judge on Tuesday Logan was unlikely to post bail before his son’s funeral scheduled for June 15.

Logan is being held on a parole violation and charges of child abuse or neglect and possession of a gun by a prohibited person.

Authorities say Logan’s son was with four young children when he was fatally shot, but at this time, it’s not clear who pulled the trigger. According to the arrest report, the kids thought the gun was a BB gun.

In 2016 a neglect complaint was filed with CPS for Messiah Logan’s family. However, the claim was found to be unsubstantiated.
