Abandoned dog gets new lease on life

A dog that had been living behind a dumpster for months is getting a new chance at a happy home, thanks to some animal-loving citizens.

According to people in the neighborhood, no one could get the dog to come out from behind the dumpster until a local trapper finally coaxed the dog into coming out.

The trapper took the animal to Foreclosed Upon Pets, Inc. A generous couple paid for the animal’s veterinarian and grooming costs.

“When we first got him, we didn’t know what kind of a dog he was,” said Mary Hauer with Foreclosed Upon Pets, Inc. “We didn’t even know if he was a he or she, because his hair was so long and so matted, that we couldn’t tell what he was.”

The dog, who was originally named Violet, is now known as Clay. Foreclosed Upon Pets says Clay has been neutered, had all of his shots and is microchipped. He is healthy, but is a little skittish.

He will be up for adoption this weekend.
