Tsunami watch canceled for Hawaii after 7.5-magnitude earthquake off Russia

HONOLULU (KLAS) — A tsunami watch for Hawaii has been canceled following a strong 7.5-magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Russia. It occurred east of the Kuril Islands.

The watch went into effect at 4:59 p.m. HST and ended shortly thereafter.

The National Weather Service says an investigation is underway to determine if there is a threat to Hawaii.
