1 killed in northwest valley shooting

News

One man is dead following a shooting in the northwest part of the valley Monday night.

The shooting occurred shortly before 7 p.m. at an apartment complex near Lake Mead Boulevard and Jones Boulevard.

Metro Police say the victim was shot outside the clubhouse after an argument. First responders took him to University Medical Center where he later died.

“We’re in the preliminary stages right now. We’re going door to door trying to locate witnesses,” said Metro Police Lt. Dan McGrath. “We had a couple witnesses heard about six shots.”

Police say the suspect and victim appear to have known each other.

One witness who asked to remain anonymous says the shooting may have resulted from a dispute over a love triangle. He says the victim claimed to have been assaulted previously by the suspect, whom police have not yet identified.

“I was talking to him earlier after they jumped him,” the witness said. “I came out of my apartment, and he came up and started talking to me and told me what happened to him, that two guys had jumped him in the parking lot earlier. He told me that one of the guys was having an affair with his wife.”

The witness tells 8 News NOW the area has been plagued with violence recently.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
