After attending Michigan State University he began his television career. His more than 24 years in television have taken him to newsrooms in Kansas, Michigan, Memphis, Missouri, Seattle, and Las Vegas where he produced and managed daily newscasts.
But in 2017 he left television to hit the road, paved and dirt, giving tourists an experience of a lifetime as an adventure tour guide. He showed tourists the wilder side of the desert southwest at the Grand Canyon, Valley of Fire, Death Valley, Red Rock Canyon, Las Vegas, and other hidden gems in between.
Phenix is also considered a world traveler. He was born in Scotland and lived there for six years. Since moving to the United States on New Year’s Day in 1980 he has visited many other countries including China. Phenix and his wife have also taught conversational English in both Spain and Italy.
Now, Phenix and his wife have called Las Vegas home since early 2012. They have two dogs, both adopted from the Animal Foundation here in Las Vegas. When not working he still enjoys exploring ghost towns around Nevada and getting away to desolate areas (there are a lot of them in Nevada) to photograph nature and the dark night sky.
