New information is trickling out tonight from the Clark County School District. Answers to questions posed by the Channel 8 I-Team about the excessive use of overtime and call-out pay by a district employee.
Tuesday night the I-Team told you about Bill Wiseman, the supervisor of the district's security systems department who earned nearly $60,000 in overtime and call-back pay last year on top of his $75,000 salary.
So what does he do for all of that extra cash? In a written response to the I-Team, the district explains Wiseman is approved to receive a maximum of two hours of overtime per day Monday thru Thursday.
Who is Responsible?
You may remember Wiseman from this surveillance video obtained by the I-Team. It captures him taking school district property, some of which he admits he used in his home security system.
The district claims Wiseman needs the extra OT to arrive before his employees and prepare for the day and to remain after they leave to close out work orders and log equipment.
State Assemblyman and Nevada PTA President Mo Dennis questions whether this is an efficient use of limited resources, "We need to look into this. The school district, I would hope, is looking into this. The biggest concern is the overtime -- why are they paying overtime? They should at least talk about that at some point."
We're still waiting for a response from the district about the specifics of Wiseman's call-out duties.
An I-Team analysis found he was paid for nearly 700 hours of call-outs last year. His union contract requires he get a minimum of three hours per call. The district does point out however as of May of 2008, Wiseman no longer receives call-back pay.
But with what he earned earlier in the year and the on-going overtime, Wiseman will again clear six figures this year.
