Austin Finds a Forever Home!

Posted: Updated:

Weeks from their first phone call, to a child in their home.   Today's Wednesday's Child success story is probably the fastest placement ever made at family services.   But what really matters is: one little boy's life is changed forever.

Hard to believe I met Austin for the first time on a chilly January day - seven months ago -- at Lorenzi Park.

The first thing that struck me was what a handsome and energetic kid he was, but Austin was autistic, and finding the right home for him would be a challenge.

Luckily ashley was watching that day.

"The first time we saw Austin was on TV...on Wed's Child,....and I saw him, and thought that was my son...and there was a way that we had to get him home," explains Ashley, Austin's new adoptive mother.

When her husband, Shane, got home, she showed him too.

"Ashley took me into the room, and she said, look at this child on Wednesday's Child... That kid looks amazing, caught my eye as well as hers, and knew right away, we both knew right away he was probably going to be the one," agrees Shane.

They were already a few weeks into the home study and their classes.   Just a few weeks more, and they hoped Austin would be theirs.

"We called the Adoption Exchange, and told them, you know this child, there's something about this child that we want, he's he is the kid we're looking for," adds Ashley.

"Yeah, definitely we wanted to get him in as fast as possible, but what was in his best interest," says Shane.

Austin's been in the home almost a month, now, and you'd think this family had been together for years.

"I dont' know if it was perfect timing, or if it was just meant to be, or if it was god working in our family,  but when it's meant to be, it's meant to be," says Ashley.

"It's amazing, I couldn't ask for more," admits Shane.

We're happy for Austin, but there are scads of other foster kids waiting for adoption.  If you'd like to get started in the process, please call the local office of the Adoption Exchange now at 436-6335.
