With a tough economy nationwide, there are not too many cities where you are going to find a thousand new jobs created overnight. Fortunately, Las Vegas isn't like too many cities.

Station Casinos is going to hire 1,000 employees to open its newest property called Aliante Station.

The Nevada unemployment rate is the highest it has been since May of 1994. So just one day after the Station Casinos began accepting applications both online and on the phone, executives say the response has been overwhelming.

When it opens on November 11, 2008, Aliante Station will feature more than 200 guest rooms, six restaurants and a 16 screen movie theatre. But in order to open on time, it will need its most important asset -- people.

"We have been inundated with applicants, both online and on the phone -- and we are thrilled over that," said Lori Nelson with Station Casinos.

Lori Nelson says the soft economy is creating good opportunities for both would-be employees and the company.

"We also know during the tough economic times people are either looking to improve their current job or they might be out of work, and this one of those great opportunities. And those opportunities are few and far between right now. So know that between the culmination of all of those factors, we are going to get a great pool of people," she said.

Station Casinos officials say they are staggering the application process so a new batch of jobs will open up every few weeks.

"By staggering the different departments, it allows us to really focus on getting a qualified pool of applicants during a specified time frame," said Nelson.

As of right now, only six departments at Aliante are accepting applications. Over the next few weeks, more than 20 other departments will have listings -- all with multiple positions.
