Lawyers for Las Vegas attorney Noel Gage are asking a federal judge to grant immunity to a prominent surgeon so the surgeon can testify during Gage's retrial next month.
Gage is accused of conspiracy for allegedly ripping off his own injured clients for huge sums of money.
The government says he conspired with doctors and with alleged middleman Howard Awand to essentially line their own pockets at the expense of the injured clients.
Two of the doctors testified against Gage in his first trial, which ended in a hung jury.
Now, Gage's lawyers want the court to hear from surgeon Dr. Mark Kabins who says he and Gage did nothing wrong in how they handled injured clients. Although Kabins told the court he did everything legally, he is still asking for immunity from prosecution.
The I-Team reported last year that Kabins is considered a primary target of the FBI investigation into the so-called medical mafia case.
