Medical Center Inspections Uncover 7 With Major Problems

The state has completed its inspections of nearly 50 ambulatory surgery centers in Nevada and found that seven had major infection control problems.

The inspections were done following the discovery that two endoscopic surgery centers in Las Vegas reused syringes and medicine vials causing the spread of hepatitis C among some patients.

In all 50 centers were on the list to be inspected, and inspections were completed on 48. One clinic was closed due to renovation and the other clinic was closed due to its business license being revoked. Twenty four clinics were found to have no deficiencies, 17 had minor deficiencies, such as lack of documentation, two had medium level problems, such as sterilization concerns and seven had major infection control problems, such as the reuse of single-dose vials.

The seven centers that had major deficiencies discovered are:

  • Centennial Spine & Pain Management, 4454 N. Decatur Blvd., Las Vegas
  • Desert Shadow Endoscopy Ctr. LLC, 4275 S. Burnham Ave, Suite 101, Las Vegas
  • Endoscopy Center of So. Nevada, 700 Shadow Lane, Suite 165B, Las Vegas
  • Gastrointestinal Diagnostic Clinic, 3196 S. Maryland Pkwy., #207, Las Vegas
  • Lake Tahoe Surgery Center, 212 Elks Point Rd.,210, Zephyr Cove
  • Shadow Mountain Surgical Cetner, 7135 W. Sahara Ave. Suite 101, Las Vegas
  • Sierra Center for Foot Surgery, 1801 N. Carson, Carson City
