The Las Vegas Marathon is just two weeks away. One local man running the race is like a fish out of water, and the big day can't come soon enough.
At Cirque du Soleil's "O" -- most of what you see happens above water, sometimes "way" above water. But diver, Chum Stine sees the show every night from a different perspective.
"Our department mainly is safety for the pool. We handle the performers. We catch them in the water, move them. And have overall safety in the water. Keeping an eye on everybody including technicians as well as performers," said Chum.
Chum is assistant manager of aquatics for "O" -- he's also running in this year's marathon, his third race here in Las Vegas.
"And I always thought it would be a good accomplishment in life to actually do a marathon and complete it. And since I've done it, it's kind of like an addiction. When you do one, you want to do another. Even after the painful finish. You just feel good about it and want to try and improve on it every year," said Chum.
Chum's practice-runs are up to 20 miles -- a distance that requires a lot of practice and concentration. He says the training on land has made his work in the water easier.
"The marathon training helps me out as a diver. Being in good condition as a diver just helps you breathe better underwater, be relaxed, have the ability to move through the water effortlessly."
Chum's wife will be running beside him in this year's race. The couple is celebrating the birth of their first child this past March.
The Las Vegas Marathon is Sunday, Dec. 2, and you can see it live on Channel 8 or streaming live on LasVegasNOW.com.
