The countdown and the workouts continue toward the Las Vegas Marathon. For many runners, this will be their first marathon experience. For others, it's another chapter in a long tradition.

This year's marathon will mark the 20th race for Claudio Marshall, a physical therapy assistant at Valley Hospital.

"I remember my first marathon. I felt like crying. It's like, man! I can't believe I did it. It's the feeling when you're running and when you're done," said Marshall.

Marshall runs two marathons a year. One in Las Vegas, the other in Los Angeles. And although he's a seasoned runner, a 26-mile race still requires focus and determination. But the hard work involved is not a deterrent.

"It becomes an addiction. I have to do something. I can't stay still. I have to get up and run. It feels good," said Marshall.

Marshall hopes that his 3-year-old son will develop an interest in running and that someday they can run the race together. In the meantime, he's already looking forward to 2008.

"When I finish, I tell myself, another marathon. Let's bring it on next year," he said.

The Las Vegas Marathon is Dec. 2. Channel 8 is the official broadcast partner for the Las Vegas Marathon.
