The cooler weather is a welcomed relief for the thousands of runners in training for the 2007 Las Vegas Marathon. Among them are employees of a local company that believes in the healthy-body, healthy-mind connection.

Some 150 employees of Zappos.com are warming up for December's marathon and half-marathon. The online footwear company, based in Las Vegas, is one of the sponsors of this year's event.

The company's chief executive officer, Tony Hsieh, says its not easy finding the time to practice, but well worth the effort. "A lot of them have never run before. This is their first experience with an event like this. We're very excited to get them more involved, because it creates a great community within Zappos and also gets everyone to experience what participating in a marathon or half marathon is like."

This will be Hsieh's second Las Vegas Marathon. Last year's event was a source of inspiration, and he wanted to pass it on to his employees.

"Prior to the training, the furthest I'd ever run in my life was half a mile. And it was one of those things I just wanted to check off to say I'd run a marathon at some point in my life. So just going through the whole training experience and the actual marathon, it was a great experience," said Hsieh.

The health and well-being of its workers is something that Zappos management takes very seriously, and they actively try to help them reach personal and professional goals.

"Just any life goals. So it could be exercise, weight loss goals, or financial planning or career advice. And I guess our philosophy is we really want to focus the employees and the company culture," said Hsieh.

Channel 8 is the official broadcast partner for the Las Vegas Marathon.
