Over 150 Wild Horses Have Died at BLM Holding Facility

More wild horses have died at a BLM holding facility near Reno.

The Channel 8 I-Team reported two weeks ago that 130 wild horses had died at the BLM's Palomino Valley facility.

The BLM says the animals died of salmonella poisoning. The facility has been shut down and quarantined.

On Oct. 10, BLM confirmed that 26 more horses have died, which the agency characterized as "an improvement." The BLM says the horses died because they could not adapt to the type of feed given them at Palomino Valley.

Critics of the program say the horses would have been better off if they'd just been left in the wild.
