Local Couple to Marry During Las Vegas Marathon

A traditional wedding dress and tuxedo will be replaced with sneakers and running shorts. That's how one local couple is getting married -- on the run during this year's Las Vegas Marathon.

Chris Smith and Angie Rodriguez both work for Las Vegas casinos. And they both enjoy a good workout. And it was at the gym where this future bride and groom met -- during this year's marathon, they'll get hitched on the fly.

"We're running with some other couples. The actual pastor will be running with the group. At mile five, we all stop and some folks are renewing their vows. We're actually getting married. So we do it in a group setting," said Chris.

Chris and Angie tell us they're passionate about fitness. And while some brides envision being carried over the threshold, Angie is looking forward to her first 26 miles as Mrs. Angie Smith.

"This fits with us. It might be non-traditional, but I never really had a dream of a big wedding with the big church and traditional scene," shared Angie.

"Completing the Marathon and of course, getting married, are two of the greatest personal accomplishments a person can do," said Chris. "And as we've started our training for this, I get goose bumps thinking about coming up to the chapel and then finishing the race together."

The couple will tie the knot at A Special Memory Wedding Chapel," where several other marathon couples have been married on the run.

The Las Vegas marathon is Dec. 2, and you can see it live on Channel 8.
