Food 4 Less Stabbing Suspect Apologizes

The man caught on camera in a supermarket rampage says he is sorry for what his actions. Jerry Gomez talked with Eyewitness News about his Tuesday night rampage that sent two people to the hospital.

"I feel real sorry for what I did," said Gomez, who is charged with two counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon and two counts of battery with a deadly weapon.

"I wish I wouldn't have done it," he said. Gomez is accused of stabbing a female clerk, who worked in the slot machine area of Food 4 Less, 11 times. He is also accused of stabbing a security guard and injuring two other people, who eventually subdued him. The female clerk and security guard have since been released from the hospital.

The incident was captured on surveillance video and shows Gomez calmly gambling at a slot machine when he abruptly jumps up and starts stabbing the attendant in the neck and then begins running around the store slashing at people before store employees start hitting him to get him under control.

Gomez tells Eyewitness News that he felt threatened and believes that someone was following him prior to the attack.

Gomez, who made his first court appearance on Friday morning said he arrived from Kingman, Arizona a week ago.

Bailiffs said he seemed upbeat in court, but he didn't say a word. Even when the judge offered him an attorney. Bail was set for Jerry Gomez at $250,000 and he is being held in the North Las Vegas jail.
