Twice Featured, Once Adopted!

Posted: Updated:

Dave enjoys telling Wednesday's Child success stories more than anything else, especially for Jessica, who has been on the program twice before hoping to be adopted.

Dave's first encounter with Jessica happened at Cashman Field and was immediately impressed with how smart and expressive she was, and she looked great in that baseball cap, too.

A few months later, she got a personal tour of the Channel 8 studios and another appearance on Wednesday's Child.  She explained then why she was still very determined to be adopted.

"Why would I want to be adopted? 'Cause I want a home, someone to love me," Jessica said.

Someone important was watching that interview, someone who was a friend of Jessica's future adoptive mother.

"She saw Jessica on Wednesday's Child, and said, 'I think this girl will be perfect for you.' So, I called and inquired about her," said Dawn, Jessica's new adoptive mother. "I like kids. I like teenagers, which is sort of insane, I guess."

A few home visits, some weekends together, and lots of soul searching later, Jessica and Dawn became a family, along with a very precocious 5-year-old named Kyle, Dawn's natural son.

Jessica loves her mom -- though they tangle now and then -- and she loves being a big sister to Kyle.

"She's caring, she's nice, she's usually fair. I mean, life's not fair, but she usually tries to make that happen, and she can handle this thing. And so, she just really makes you feel comfortable a lot," admits Jessica.

Dawn continued, "I really like having a family setting. Before it was just Kyle and myself, and I had always wanted more children, and I'm a single parent, and I have no real desire to have more kids, so it was real nice to go into a setting where I can get some older kids that need a home. And I enjoy older kids, so that's what I wanted to do."
