A Las Vegas doctor has been arrested for murder. He is charged with selling drugs to some of his patients. One of those patients overdosed on the pain reliever and died.
Dr. Harriston L. Bass, Jr. was arrested Wednesday following a six-month investigation by the Attorney General's office. They say the sale of these prescribed drugs by the doctor has been going on for about four years.
Bass was arrested for a second degree murder charge as well as 21 counts of sale of a controlled substance and six counts of possession for the sale of a controlled substance.
The AG's office says Bass was selling pain relievers, specifically hydrocodone to his patients. But one of his patients died of a hydrocodone overdose last year.
"Actually engaging in a hand to hand sale and they would give him money anywhere from $90 to $120 for each bottle that he was providing," said Conrad Hafen, chief deputy attorney general.
The AG's office says Bass did not have a license to dispense drugs. The doctor's medical license is currently suspended due to previous trouble with the state Board of Medical Examiners for similar allegations.
Eyewitness News talked to the attorney for the victim who died in this case. The victim's family has already filed a civil lawsuit against Bass.
