I-15 southbound was shut down for more than 12 hours while a fatal accident involving a double-decker bus, tractor-trailer, and car was investigated.
The southbound lanes of I-15 were closed between Tropicana and Russell following the 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night accident.
A double-decker Deuce bus traveling in the northbound lanes crashed into road barriers and crossed into the southbound lanes hitting the semi-truck head-on and also hitting a car.
The tractor-trailer driver was killed and three other people were injured. THere were no passengers on the bus.
Nevada Highway Patrol has officially listed the cause of the accident as tire tread separation of the left front tire causing the driver to lose control.
According to Jacob Snow with the Regional Transportation Commission all the buses on the fleet will have their tires checked. "We just have to provide extra special attention in the heat that we have because it takes a toll on everybody's vehicles, not just buses," Snow said.
The Deuce buses do not carry passengers on I-15. They use the freeway as a quick way to get back to the yard after their shift.
