Police detectives have uncovered new evidence in their investigation of Clark County Recorder Fran Deane. The I-Team has learned that a second search warrant has been served on Deane's home last week based on information given to Metro detectives by at least two new witnesses.

Those witnesses allege that they paid thousands of dollars to the county recorder in exchange for early access to public documents. Back in early March, Metro detectives seized records and computers from the office of Fran Deane. They also served a search warrant on her home, looking for evidence that she may have sold public documents to private businesses.

One Las Vegas businessman, Monty Miller, owner of American Documents, has reportedly told police that he paid Deane tens of thousands of dollars for documents and was even allowed to remove a computer from county offices over a weekend.

The warrant remains sealed, but knowledgeable officials say the warrant is based on new information from two out of state businessmen who say they, too, paid cash to Deane in exchange for documents. One informant reportedly told police that Deane asked that more than $20,000 in cash be delivered to her stuffed inside teddy bears. When detectives visited Deane's condo a few days ago, they reportedly found the bears complete with pockets sewn inside, but the alleged cash payment was not present.

Metro and the Clark Count District Attorney's office declined to comment on this new development, but the Eyewitness News I-Team has learned the police investigation is nearly complete and that the Metro case will be handed over to the D.A.'s office within a matter of days.

It will be up to the D.A.'s office to decide how to proceed with the case, including the new teddy bear developments.

Fran Deane is still working as county recorder although she only visits her office every few days. A call to her cell phone went unanswered.

She has previously maintained her innocence.
