The government is trying to find homes for almost 500 wild horses after the buyer cancelled contracts to send the animals for slaughter.
The Bureau of Land Management isn't identifying 20 people and two tribes that backed out of contracts to buy. The cancellations came after federal officials strengthened contracts to impose criminal penalties if horses are sold for slaughter.
The Humane Society (HSUS) praised the U.S. Senate for its 68-29 passage of an amendment to the bill prohibiting the use of any federal taxpayer funds to slaughter horses for food exports. More>>
