As Independence Day approaches, officials are warning us about the danger of fireworks and wildfires as illegal fireworks make their way into Clark County.

Fireworks that are illegal to buy and sell in Clark County are legal to buy and sell in sold in Nye County. But if you drive cross county lines to buy these fireworks, it's illegal to bring them back to Clark County. And it's illegal to light these fireworks in both Clark County and Nye County.

You can find just about all types of fireworks in Pahrump. One family from Las Vegas made the trip to buy fireworks that are banned in Clark County, but they didn't want to talk on camera. They did admit they were taking their purchase back to Clark County.

Before you can buy fireworks in Pahrump, you have to get a clearance slip showing you are not from Nye County. Even though Nye County allows the sale of these fireworks, it is illegal to light them in that county.

Lorie Orman says, "We're not selling to Nye County because of the fire hazard." Orman who manages Phantom Fireworks says while her store cannot control where people light fireworks, they do suggest they be safe. She says, "We tell them to ask the fire marshals in the counties and see where they are legal to light them."

And while illegal to light these fireworks in Clark and Nye counties Orman says people are going to buy the novelties regardless. "America has been celebrating for hundreds of years. Fireworks are the safest that they've been in more than 30 years."

Bringing illegal fireworks into Clark County is a misdemeanor and could mean jail time.
