This week's Wednesday's Child is a girl who knows who she is, and what she wants. Her name is Maryssa, and she's 13.
One of the things she most wants is a stable, loving family, which is remarkable, really, for a girl of 13 who's been bounced around the system for a while.
With bread in hand, Maryssa made friends with the ducks and geese at Lorenzi Park right away. In no time she had them eating right out of her hand.
But Maryssa has plenty of people skills too. The first thing you notice is her infectious smile, and her positive attitude.
"She's very outgoing, sweet, very social, very funny," says Bria, her caseworker.
Maryssa likes skateboarding, drawing, sewing, and all kinds of sports. "My favorite thing to do is swim and just play -- have fun, just like a normal teenager," says Maryssa.
And just like a normal teenager, Maryssa has a rebellious streak in her. "The only thing I hate is when people tell me what to do when I know I don't want to do it," says Maryssa matter-of-factly.
Maryssa likes people. And she'd like a family -- permanently.
"I just want to go with a family that I can stay with instead of like going back and forth from place to place," Maryssa says longingly.
"She needs a stable household, a stable family who's committed to her," admits Bria.
"I think either two parents or a single mother, either her being the only child in the household or maybe younger siblings. She's very good with younger kids, so I think that would be ideal," adds Bria.
This is the perfect age to step into Maryssa's life and bring her the love that'll last her the rest of her life. If you're interested, please call the Las Vegas office of the Adoption Exchange at 436-6335 .
