LAS VEGAS -- A former Nevada lawmaker, who has spent the last several months behind bars in California, is back in Las Vegas to face charges here.

Steven Brooks was booked into the Clark County Detention Center Tuesday on charges of domestic battery, false statement, resisting a public officer with a firearm and assault on a protected person.

Brooks was an assemblyman from North Las Vegas. However, in January 2013 he was arrested on charges of threatening Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick.

From there he had several other run ins with the law, including a domestic dispute with his wife, which is where the charges he is facing now are coming from.

In March 2013, he was removed from office by the Legislature.

Just a few hours after the decision, he was arrested following a police chase in Victorville, California. In July, he pleaded no contest to evading a police officer and resisting arrest in connection with the confrontation with California Highway Patrol officers.
