LAS VEGAS -- The suspect in the Bellagio casino armed robbery attended court bound and gagged Wednesday morning for his initial court appearance.

Scott Carmitchel, 34, of Kansas had to be brought to the Las Vegas Justice Court in restraints after becoming combative with Metro Police officers.

Carmitchel is accused of robbing the casino of $43,500 and the going on a spending spree with prostitutes.

He is also facing charges in federal court. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Carmitchel is being charged with one count of armed bank robbery and one count of interference with commerce by robbery.

Carmitchel is accused of robbing a bank on East Tropicana Avenue on July 22. He apparently used a gun with an orange tip during the robbery. Investigators say they found a 6 mm BB gun with an orange tip in the hotel room that the defendant was staying in.

He is due in court for his preliminary hearing on Aug. 13.
