Police find man shot dead inside home

LAS VEGAS - One person is dead after a shooting near Durango Drive and Blue Diamond Road.

The incident occurred on Lower Trailhead Avenue. Metro Police received a call shortly before 12:30 a.m. Thursday about shots fired at a home in the area. Neighbors also reported hearing someone banging on a door.

When officers arrived, they found the front door of the home was kicked in. They entered the home and discovered 22-year-old Marvin Surrell with fatal gunshot wounds in an upstairs hallway. Surrell lives with his mother, girlfriend, and 6-year-old step-daughter.

The other people were not home at the time of the shooting.

"I don't believe it was a random act. I mean everyone should have concerns, I don't believe this particular incident is a random act. It is more targeted to this specific person,” Metro Police homicide Sgt. Matthew Sanford said.

Neighbor Eric Harris says the shooting is troubling especially since it's just a few doors down from his family.

"I mean everyone in this neighborhood is quiet, they get a long. I never see anybody out of hand, or big house parties or any outlandish people,” Harris said.

Police do not have any witnesses to this crime and are still trying to determine a motive. Metro Police does not have any leads, and investigators are looking into whether any items were taken. Investigators say they suspect the home was targeted specifically.
