NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- North Las Vegas Police are looking for the public's help in finding a 3-year-old girl.

According to police, the department was contacted Saturday about the disappearance of 3-year-old Katies Nevaeh Battle. Police were told she had been abducted by her biological mother from her father's apartment on Las Vegas Boulevard near Lake Mead Boulevard. Child Protective Services had removed Katies from her parents' custody 18 months ago. She had been living with a foster family.

With permission from CPS, Katies' foster mother had dropped her off at her father's house on Friday for a scheduled visit. Late Saturday afternoon, the child's father reported her missing. According to family members, the child's mother, 35-year-old Shelly Mitchell, took the girl from the father's home during a family gathering, to which she was denied access.

Evidence in the case supports the allegation that Katies is with Shelly Mitchell, who does not have custodial rights to the child.

Katies Battle is described as an African-American girl, about 2 foot, 36 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Battle was last seen wearing a green and pink shirt with a flower in the middle and green leggings.

Shelly Mitchell is described as an African-American woman, about 5 foot 5, 155 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. She is known to frequent the Henderson area near Green Valley Parkway and Sunset Road.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Katies Battle or Shelly Mitchell should call the North Las Vegas Police Department at(702) 633-9111 or Nevada Child Seekers at (702) 458-7009.
