LAS VEGAS -- One of the two candidates for executive director at the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange withdrew his name from consideration Thursday. With that decision, the board appointed the only other candidate, Bruce Gilbert, to the position. Gilbert is an insurance expert out of Texas.
The other candidate, David Haws, has worked for the state dealing directly with technology for the past 10 years. He told the board he had concerns about finishing a project he was previously committed to at the state’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, if he was appointed.
Gilbert will be a permanent replacement for Jon Hager who left the post earlier this year.
The Silver State Health Insurance Exchange was set up under the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare, to help people find affordable health insurance.
The exchange has been under fire because of its troubled website Nevada Health Link.
