UPDATE: Flash flood warning issued for south central Clark County

LAS VEGAS -- The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a flash flood warning for south central Clark County until 6:00 p.m. Weather

service Doppler radar indicated flash flooding from a series of thunderstorms along highway 164. The storms are moving north at 10 mph. The locations impacted include Cottonwood Cove Marina, Searchlight and Highway 164.

Flash flooding is expected in washes, low-water crossings and on roads.

Abundant moisture and instability is in place across southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and eastern San Bernardino counties, the National Weather Service announced Thursday morning.

Very heavy rain is possible with the numerous showers and thunderstorms that are expected.

The weather service has issued a flash flood watch that will be in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday for portions of northwest Arizona, California and Nevada, including Lake Havasu, Fort Mohave, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Las Vegas valley, Lincoln County, northeast Clark County, Sheep Rang, southern Clark County, Spring Mountains, Red Rock Canyon and southern Nye Count. In California, San Bernardino County and upper Colorado River valley. 

The severe thunderstorm warning for east central Clark County expired at 11:45 a.m.

The Regional Flood Control District is monitoring the system after this morning’s rain. The district is reminding people:

  • Turn Around Don’t Drown
  • Stay out of all washes, channels, detention basins Thursday
  • Even after the rain the water will still be moving for hours on the streets and in our system all the way to Lake Mead
