LOS ANGELES - The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced Thursday the nominees for the 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards.

HBO's "Game of Thrones" earned a leading 19 Emmy Award nominations, including for best drama series. Other nominees in the best drama category include: "Breaking Bad", "Downton Abbey", "House of Cards", "Mad Men" and "True Detective".

The nominees announced for best actor in a drama series include: Bryan Cranston, "Breaking Bad"; Jeff Daniels, "The Newsroom"; Jon Hamm, "Mad Men"; Woody Harrelson, "True Detective"; Matthew McConaughey, "True Detective"; and Kevin Spacey, "House of Cards."

The nominees for best actress in a drama series are: Lizzy Caplan, "Masters of Sex"; Claire Danes, "Homeland"; Michelle Dockery, "Downton Abbey"; Julianne Margulies, "The Good Wife"; Kerry Washington, "Scandal"; and Robin Wright, "House of Cards".

The nominees for best comedy series include: "Big Bang Theory", "Louie", "Modern Family", "Orange is the New Black", "Silicon Valley', and "Veep".

Lead actor in a comedy series nominees include: Ricky Gervais for "Derek", Matt LeBlanc for "Episodes", Don Cheadle for "House of Lies", Louis C.K. for "Louie", William H. Macy for "Shameless", and Jim Parsons for "The Big Bang Theory".

Nominees for lead actress in a comedy series include: Lena Dunham for "Girls", Melissa McCarthy for "Mike & Molly", Edie Falco for "Nurse Jackie", Taylor Schilling for "Orange is the New Black", Amy Poehler for "Parks and Recreation" and Julia Louis-Dreyfus for "Veep".

The 2014 Emmy Awards air August 25.
