LAS VEGAS -- More Nevadans have health insurance with implementation of the Affordable Care Act but the state still has one of the nation’s highest percentages of uninsured residents, WalletHub reported Wednesday.

The consumer information website quoted a Kaiser Family Foundation study that estimated 19.58 percent of Nevadans still don’t have health insurance. That’s an improvement of 6.94 percentage points since the so-called Obamacare plan took effect but still sixth worst among the 43 states where such data is available. Massachusetts topped the list with an estimated 1.2 percent of its residents uninsured.

WalletHub reported that 45,390 Nevadans have enrolled in private insurance under Obamacare. An additional 136,551 Nevadans enrolled in Medicaid between last summer and April to take advantage of expanded coverage. WalletHub said that means one of every five Nevadans under age 64 is receiving Medicaid.
