Iconic Ford Mustang goes electric

Posted: Updated:
Las Vegas-- Sparkey, the fully electric Ford Mustang, doesn't have the iconic rumbles of your average muscle car, but it has the iconic look and the potential to bring the classic car into the 21st century.

The electric car runs on its 12 car batteries and can travel about 30-miles at 55-miles per hour. It can be charged at home for about a dollar a day.

The creator, Larry Gareffa, and his son spent hundreds of hours putting the car together. They sold the engine to pay for cosmetics.

The goal is to showcase Sparkey to the world and show that car owners can be energy efficient and still ride in style.

"If I can do this, and electric cars are becoming a thing now, why couldn't I build something to show people you can still have a classic car and convert it," said Gareffa.

The next phase for Sparkey is to top 100-miles per hour and travel 100-miles between charges.
