Cowabunga Bay water park finally opens

LAS VEGAS -- The Las Vegas valley's newest water park opened its doors Friday after long delays, giving people in Henderson a new way to beat the heat.

Cowabunga Bay opened near Boulder Highway and Galleria Drive. The $25 million park takes up 23 acres.

There are water slides, a lazy river, and a wave pool. The park put about 500 people to work. There was a line outside the park before it opened at 10:30 a.m. Some people started waiting in line at 8:45 a.m.

“It was awesome. I was expecting it to be a madhouse like Wet ‘n’ Wild last year. When I got here and saw that there was nobody out here I was surprised. For a second, I didn't think they were opening, and then I ended up getting the first in line. It was pretty cool,” Darrell Calk said.

The park is open until 8 p.m. on Fridays and weekends and 7 p.m. on weekdays. Admission is $36 for adults and $28 for kids.
