Summerlin Patriotic Parade celebrates 20 years

LAS VEGAS -- Thousands of families braved the heat for the 20th annual Summerlin Council Patriotic Parade Friday.

The parade was a sea of red, white and blue with more than 70 character-themed floats, marching bands, dance troops, dignitaries and live entertainment.

This year was a special one because it is the 20th year the parade has marched through the streets of Summerlin.

“We've lived here for 10 years and we've been 10 years. We love it! It is a tradition. I was probably the first one out here this morning. My husband drops me off, I set up all the stuff, get ready for the kids to come," mom and Summerlin resident Cindy Trussel said.

The young and the young at heart donned their red, white and blue proudly waving the American flag.

Jake Landsteiner’s wife is stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, serving as a staff dermatologist.

“My wife has served a tour overseas and to see what everybody in the Air Force, Army Marines, Coast Guard, what they've all fought for us, to give us these freedoms, is amazing," Landsteiner said.

The parade started 20 years ago with kids on bikes decorated in red, white and blue, riding up and down the street. Now, people from all over the Las Vegas valley flock the area.
