LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police have released new details about the officer-involved shooting that left a woman dead.

According to Assistant Sheriff Joe Lombardo, dispatchers received a call about a disturbance at the Manor Suites on Las Vegas Boulevard and Warm Springs Road just after midnight June 25.

Multiple callers told police that a woman was yelling and waving a knife outside of an apartment within the complex.

When officers arrived, they found a woman, identified by the Clark County Coroner’s Office as 48-year-old Mimi Goldberg, on a second-floor balcony yelling and holding a knife.

The officers told Goldberg to drop the knife and she refused. Goldberg then walked to an apartment, took the screen off the window and climbed inside, police said.

Witnesses told police Goldberg was inside the apartment stabbing someone. When officers reached the apartment, they saw Goldberg stabbing a woman.

One officer fired his weapon at Goldberg, who then stood up and turned her attention to a 5-year-old child, who had come out of a bedroom. The officer fired again, striking Goldberg. The suspect ran to the bathroom.

The officer got into the bathroom and took Goldberg into custody. Goldberg was taken to University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The woman who was stabbed was not seriously hurt. There were three other children in the suite who were not hurt.

Metro’s Force Investigation Team is investigating the officers’ use of force in the case and will forward the Clark County District Attorney for review.
